Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2 September 2026

Muricameter.com is a funny website, not a data business. We do not sell your personal data or build advertising profiles about you. Still, websites cannot run without processing some data. Here is the short version.

Who we are

Muricameter.com is operated by some guy on the internet (“we” or “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

What we collect

  • Visits: IP address, requested pages, timestamps, browser or device information, and error or security logs collected automatically by the site, web host, or security tools.
  • Optional accounts: username, display name, email address, password hash, settings, and login or session information. WordPress manages registration and login. You can browse without an account, but account-only features require the registration details.
  • Things you do or submit: measurement suggestions and revisions, source links, votes, saved items, content reports and notes, attribution choices, and support or content-review messages.
  • Public information: anything you publish, plus your display name if you enable public attribution.

We receive this information from you, your device, and the ordinary operation of the site. We do not buy personal data from data brokers.

Why we use it

We use this data to run the site and accounts, publish submissions you ask us to publish, save your choices, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, respond to requests, and comply with law.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the site, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where we specifically ask for it. We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Cookies

WordPress uses essential cookies for login, sessions, and security. If you report content while signed out, we set a first-party hmf_guest token for 30 days to prevent duplicate reports and abuse. The community feature turns limited network information into keyed, coarse hashes instead of storing a raw IP address or full user-agent string; the web host or other software may keep its own logs.

We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals do not change the site’s behavior. If tracking changes, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.

User-created content

Public submissions can be seen, copied, indexed, or shared by anyone. Do not post private or confidential information. You are responsible for what you submit; user-created content does not represent us.

We do not promise to pre-screen or review every submission. We may review, flag, reject, remove, preserve, or disclose content when necessary to operate the site, enforce site rules, respond to reports, protect people, or comply with law.

Who receives data

We may give limited data to hosting, security, email, and other providers that run the site; to authorities or other parties when legally required or necessary to protect rights and safety; or to a successor if the site is transferred. We do not sell personal data or share it for targeted advertising.

Share buttons and external links take you to other services only when you choose to use them. Those services have their own privacy policies.

If a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, we use a legally recognized transfer mechanism where required.

How long we keep it

  • Certain resolved or stale anonymous reports and identifying details in older content-review records are deleted or scrubbed after about 90 days.
  • Account and private community data is kept while needed to provide the account and handle security or legal issues.
  • Published factual contributions and necessary audit history may remain after a deletion request, but we remove the link to your account where reasonably possible.
  • Server and security logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed under our hosting and security settings.

Children

The site and its accounts are not intended for anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.

Security and changes

We use reasonable safeguards, but no site is perfectly secure. Use a unique password and do not submit information you would not want stored or made public. We may update this policy when the site or law changes; we will post the new version here, change the effective date, and give any additional notice required by law.
